Cheryle Rome-Beatty
Spirit of Spain
In this series, Cheryle uses non-repetitive repetition with strong contrast and rhythmic composition to create movement and tension, interpreting life in the artist’s surroundings: Spanish composers’ musical cadences, the country’s rugged, mountainous landscape, terraced hills, intense summer heat and raging winds, and Spain’s iconic flamenco dance and music. Warm, vibrant color, sinuous lines and forms create patterns and rhythms, expressing the dynamic spirit and pulsating energy resonating within each of her pieces while still hinting an influence of African art and her architectural background.
